Spain Won the World Cup Three Weeks Ago and Mobile Football Still Hasn’t Noticed

Ferran Torres, 106th minute, MetLife Stadium. Spain 1, Argentina 0.
That’s the moment. Second World Cup for Spain after 2010, Messi’s last one ending the way most of them ended, Lamine Yamal starting a final at an age where I was failing my driving test. It happened on July 19.
Now open DLS 26 or FC Mobile and try to find any acknowledgement that it happened.
The events came before the result
This is the bit that gets me every year and I fall for it every year.
Both games ran enormous World Cup pushes. First Touch had World Heroes running from July 1, and World Winners went live in Legendary Agents in August, which I wrote about last week and was smug about saving for. EA pushed “The World’s Game” across FC 26 and FC Mobile back in early June, and FC Mobile’s been leaning on live tournament content in FCM TV ever since.
Every one of those was built and shipped before a ball was kicked in the group stage.
So what you get is tournament-flavoured content with no tournament in it. Generic hero cards and nations packs. “Legends of the World Cup” framing that could have been written in March, because it was. The actual thing that happened — a 30-year-old substitute-turned-starter putting Spain ahead in extra time in New Jersey — has no in-game existence at all.
I’ve looked. As of writing I can’t find a Ferran Torres item in either game tied to that goal. If one’s shipped since and I’ve missed it, tell me and I’ll correct this.
Why it happens, and why I’ve stopped being angry about it
Live-service content takes months. Art, licensing, balance, QA, store integration. You cannot build a card for a goal that hasn’t been scored yet.
That’s not a defence of the games so much as an explanation of the shape. If you want the tournament reflected in your squad, the honest timeline is: the winner’s content shows up in the next annual cycle, not this one. FC 27 is where a Ferran Torres World Cup Winner item lives. Not in the game you’re playing tonight.
The marketing is what gets me. June packs sold on the promise of a July result, and the promise stays vague enough that it never technically breaks.
What this means for your squad right now
Practical, because this is the part that actually costs you money.
Don’t hold gems waiting for a Torres card. I nearly did. Three weeks of “surely this week” is three weeks of not spending on content that’s actually in front of you, and the current DLS Legendary Agent pool is genuinely the strongest it’s been this cycle.
Spanish players are about to get expensive anyway. Not because of in-game events — because of what happens to real ratings after a World Cup win. Yamal, Pedri, Cucurella, Torres himself. If any of them are already in your squad, you’re holding an asset that appreciates in the next annual release. If you’re planning to buy them, buying before the ratings refresh is the cheaper end of that.
Argentina’s the interesting play. After a final loss, the market on those players softens for a bit even though nothing about them actually got worse. Emiliano Martínez didn’t become a bad keeper on July 19. I’ve been picking up Argentine players cheap for three weeks and I’d keep doing it.
That last one’s my own read, not a rule. I’ve been wrong about market timing in these games before and I’ll be wrong again.
The kit thing
Small tangent, and it’s the reason half of you are on this site in the first place.
Every World Cup, the kit downloads spike for exactly the two teams in the final, and this year that’s Spain and Argentina. It’s the most reliable pattern in mobile football and it’s got nothing to do with the games’ own content pipelines. People watch a final, they want the shirt, they go looking.
Which is fine, and also slightly funny, because the fastest way to have the World Cup in your game right now is to just… put the kit on. The games didn’t build a Ferran Torres card. You can build the Spain shirt in about ninety seconds.
Our Spain DLS kits and logo page has the direct links, and the Argentina kits page is right there if you’d rather commemorate the loss, which is a genuinely valid way to be a football fan.
What I’d actually watch for
The next FC Mobile content beat is Liga BBVA MX, announced July 24, plus MLS coverage in FCM TV. Neither has anything to do with the World Cup. That tells you where EA’s attention has moved.
First Touch will run something else after World Winners. It’ll probably be seasonal rather than tournament-based.
And somewhere in a build server, a Ferran Torres card with a gold border and “MetLife Stadium, 106′” on the back is being made for a game that comes out in September 2027, which will feel like ancient history by the time you can pull it.
If you want to see how the two games actually stack up before you commit your next few months of grinding to either, our DLS review and FC Mobile’s event calendar are the two things I’d read.
Comment your final squad. Did anyone actually build the Spain XI?
